A volunteer rescue responder with the Cannon County Rescue Squad, Inc. is an exciting opportunity to help serve in Cannon County, Woodbury, and Auburntown, Tennessee. Responders carry two-way radios and are dispatched from their homes to respond to a wide array of emergencies. Our primary type of response is to motor vehicle collisions. We use the world famous Jaws-of-Life to free victims from wreckage. We also respond to all of technical rescue needs of Cannon County, Woodbury, and Auburntown. Other type mission include water rescue, land search and rescue, animal rescue, vertical/cave/confined space rescue, farm rescue, disaster response, and adverse weather response. | Requirements: 1. Must have a valid Tennessee Driver’s License. Applicants may be denied Membership based on their having a restriction against their Driver’s License. 2. Must have reached his/her 18th birthday. a. The Cannon County Rescue Squad, Inc. will accept applications for Junior Squad Members on the basis of the applicant reaching his/her 16th birthday. i. A Junior Applicant must have a signed written statement from his/her parents and/or legal guarding, stating that they will not hold the Cannon County Rescue Squad, Inc. responsible for any accidents which may occur until the Junior applicant has reached his/her 18th birthday. 3. Must be of good moral character. 4. Must be able to perform, or assist in required duties of the Cannon County Rescue Squad, Inc. 5. Must become familiar with the use of all rescue equipment. 6. Must attend meetings, drills, and all functions of the Squad. 7. Must become Vehicle Extrication Certified within twelve (12) months of becoming a Member of the Squad. 8. To quality for membership, an applicant must be a legal citizen of the United States, or must be a nationalized citizen of the United States, or must posses a legal permit to live and work in the United States. 9. New applicants will be denied Membership if they have a felony conviction against their record. If accepted, the Firefighter is responsible for responding to medical calls for service, wrecks, and fires within our district. in 2020, WVFD responded to over 600 calls for service. The Firefighter will be responsible for apparatus checks, training, daily chores, and staying "combat ready" for calls.
