Our ambulances provides Basic Life Support services to the Hughestown Borough and many of the neighboring communities in the 67 square mile area of Greater Pittston Area. Over the last three years, our department has seen a huge increase in EMS call volume with our two BLS ambulances doing nearly 500 calls and no sign of this steady increase ending anytime in the foreseeable future.. This Wildland task force responds to brush fires and forest fires throughout Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. | Requirements: All applicants must have or submit to a PA State Police Criminal History Check and a PA Childline Child Abuse Record Check. Personnel are encouraged to be age 18 years or older. Junior Firefighters, 14 years old to 17 years old, may join and train but will be limited to the duties they may perform. Previous training in fire, rescue, or EMS is strongly encouraged but not necessary. Current Ceritification in PA Act 130: Wildland Firefighting and S-190: Introduction to Wildland Firefighting is strongly encouraged. Proof of these certifications are required. Our department call volume has steadily increased over the last three years with use responding to nearly 500 EMS calls with our ambulances and quick response unit. Emergency Medical Responders receive additional medical training beyond normal First Aid and CPR but do not engage in more complex medical procedures like those done by EMTs and Paramedics. This is an ideal position of those considering a job in the medical profession and are unsure if they want to devote the time necessary to complete EMT and Paramedic courses.
