Core House volunteers spend the majority of their time in shared common areas cleaning, stocking, baking, prepping meals, washing towels, and assisting families as needed. Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of three months of service and must be at least 18 years old.

Meal Prep Volunteers help prepare freshly-prepared dinners for approximately 75-90 residents each evening at the Akron House. Shifts are scheduled in advance, and ingredients are provided through donations and grocery store gift cards.

As a Meal Server, you will help prepare and serve meals to women and children in the shelter. This role is essential in providing nourishment and support to our residents, ensuring they feel cared for during their stay.

Volunteers at the front desk assist with check-ins, answer phone calls, and provide information to visitors. This role is crucial for maintaining a welcoming environment and ensuring smooth operations at the shelter.

As a Childcare Volunteer, you will supervise and engage with the children in our shelter, providing a safe and nurturing environment. This role allows you to make a positive impact on the lives of young residents while their parents receive support.

Volunteers in the food pantry sign in guests, pack orders, and restock items. This role may require lifting up to 40 pounds and using technology for registration and intake.

Volunteer drivers are needed for the food rescue program to pick up food donations and deliver them to hunger-relief programs. Volunteers must be comfortable lifting and carrying 10-40 pounds and are encouraged to make a 6-month commitment.

Volunteers assist in sorting, inspecting, relabeling, or repackaging donated food in the warehouse. This role requires individuals to be at least 10 years old, and youth volunteers aged 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Assist with the planning and coordination of events, fundraisers, volunteer events, and memorial services. Schedule and assist with campus use by community groups.

Perform housekeeping duties and routine cleaning to ensure a pleasant, healthy, and safe living environment. Shop and run errands, stock and inventory food and household supplies.

Provide music to residents and visitors, enhancing their experience with live performances.

Assist with data entry, filing, record keeping, mailings, and other clerical projects. Help with the creation of brochures, PowerPoint presentations, invitations, and other publications.

Perform hair care and styling, as well as nail care such as filing and applying nail polish for residents.

Provide emotional and spiritual support and hospitality to guests, family, and visitors. Read aloud and participate in supportive activities with guests and families.

Provide a nourishing home-cooked meal to guests, enhancing their dining experience with quality food.

Maintain lawn, gardens, annual and perennial beds, patios, pavilion, outdoor areas, water features, and exterior buildings.

Perform routine pet duties such as pet walking, grooming, and shopping for supplies. Provide companionship to residents' animals.

Welcome desk volunteers are needed to greet, check-in, and assist visitors. They provide hospitality to guests and families, conduct tours, distribute brochures, and occasionally answer the phone, record, and distribute messages.

Perform routine building maintenance and repairs, including basic construction and installations.

Provide pet therapy visits to residents and guests.
