Adult Literacy tutors work with adults who struggle with basic reading, writing, or math skills. Tutors commit to two hours each week for at least six months (GED track) or one year (Basic Skills track), receiving support from the program director throughout their tutoring commitment.

ESOL tutors help immigrant adults learn English and prepare for the US Naturalization Exam. Tutors commit to two hours each week for at least one year, with training provided before being matched with students.

Help in the camp gardens and participate in natural building projects. Volunteers will contribute to the maintenance and development of sustainable environments.

Participate in a citizen science program to document landslide impacts on roads and trails in public lands following Hurricane Helene. Volunteers will use smartphones to collect data, which will be shared with land stewardship agencies.

Join Jay Wherley in leading bird watching and nature walks, helping participants enjoy and learn about local wildlife. Volunteers will assist in organizing and guiding these outdoor activities.

Join our volunteer program in Asheville, North Carolina, to support immediate and long-term relief efforts following Hurricane Helene's record-breaking flooding. We are currently accepting volunteers until May 29, 2026; no prior experience is needed, just a willingness to help.

Youth Literacy tutors assist children from low-income families who read, write, and/or spell below grade level. Tutors work in person with students for 50 minutes, twice a week, for at least one school year, and receive training and ongoing support.

Join us in providing essential services such as hot showers and laundry to families affected by the recent disaster. Volunteers will assist in setting up and managing the shower trailer, distributing supplies, and offering support to those in need.

Assist with the setup and breakdown of events, and lend a hand during the Village Send Off and Welcome Back Ceremonies for the Annual Summer Rites of Passage Program. Volunteers may also share their unique gifts at these events.

AHOPE is the only day center for people experiencing homelessness in the region, providing essential services such as showers, coffee, and mail services. Volunteers are critical to the successful operation of AHOPE and will assist with tasks like sorting mail, answering phones, and helping clients access their medications.

Support the Local Cloth shop by serving a three-hour shift 1 to 2 times per month. Retail committee members meet monthly to recruit new vendors and support retail operations.

Support Local Cloth's workshops by attending monthly meetings, monitoring class registrations, and assisting with setup and cleanup. Communicate with teachers and students as needed.

Join the Skirting Team to help prepare fleece for processing by removing short cuts, burrs, and hay. Volunteers work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Local Cloth Studio, with free training provided.
