The Elizabeth Avenue Volunteer Fire Company of Fire District #1 Franklin Township, Somerset, NJ is always looking for new members to Volunteer. The Elizabeth Avenue Volunteer Fire Company has protected the northern portion of Franklin Township, Somerset County since 1942. Our completely volunteer membership operates an engine, a ladder truck and a Haz-mat response unit from our Wiley Drive firehouse. Our primary response area consists mainly of high-tech industries, large area distribution facilities, multi-story offices and hotels, a quickly growing residential area, two miles and two interchanges of Interstate Route 287. Ladder 26 serves as the primary ladder truck company for Franklin Township Fire District One and the Borough of Millstone, and responds to all fires and smoke condition calls, district-wide. Haz-Mat 26 carries bulk absorbents and provides primary defensive Haz-mat operations for Fire District One as well. In 2014 we responded to 716 calls for assistance, including fires, automatic fire alarms, motor vehicle accidents and other service calls. The time our membership devoted to training resulted in hundreds of man-hours being donated by our membership to the citizens of Franklin Township. In 2015 we expect to exceed 800 calls for assistance including over 50 Mutual Aid calls outside of District #1. We are always looking for new members in all capacities. Help organize cultural events and activities that celebrate Tamil heritage. Volunteers will assist in planning, coordinating, and executing events throughout the school year.

Volunteer as a Tamil language teacher to help children learn to read, write, and speak Tamil. No prior teaching experience is required, as guidance will be provided by the team.

Somerset Fire & Rescue, located in Somerset, New Jersey, is currently taking applications for the position of Firefighter. We respond to approximately 1000 calls per year. We provide Fire and Rescue services for Franklin Township and the surrounding area. Somerset Fire & Rescue provides firefighting, vehicle extrication, building shoring, confined space rescue, trench rescue, dive/water rescue and RIT (Rapid Intervention Team). Length of Service Awards Program: Current value is $1,650 per year. Yearly stipend for fire call attendance. Life insurance benefit. Our Cadet members are taught self-confidence, leadership, discipline, respect, responsibility and firefighter skills. You are allowed to help the firefighters with equipment and partake in training with them. You can also go on fire calls. Probationary Member– An individual who is over 18 years old. Has not gone to or finished fire academy. This member can help check equipment, go on fire calls and partake in training. The Green Brook Rescue Squad has been providing emergency medical services to the residents and visitors to the Township of Green Brook since 1950. In 1999 the two Departments merged to create the Green Brook Fire-EMS Department. The membership consists of 100% volunteers. The Department is seeking dedicated, community minded individuals for essential community service. Green Brook is a small community with mainly residential homes, some townhome / condominium complexes and a commercial corridor on US Highway 22. The department averages 225- 275 calls a year. Prospective Junior or Regular Probationary applicants must live in Green Brook or within 10 minutes of Firehouse #1 or Firehouse #2. The regular probation period is 1 year. In that time frame you must be able to attend and pass a NJ State certified Firefighter 1 Course. The FF 1 course is usually 2 nights a week and 1 day on the weekend for approximately 3.5 months.
