Thank you for your interest in joining the Cresskill Fire Department as firefighter in the Volunteer Division. The Cresskill Fire Department is a combination fire department, utilizing both paid and volunteer firefighters. Because of the combination department, the Borough of Cresskill benefits by the immediate response of paid personnel, complemented by volunteer firefighters. The department responds out of Fire Headquarters located at 51 Madison Ave. The department utilizes 3 engines, an aerial truck, a rescue truck, and 3 licensed ambulances. | Requirements: Appointment of members. No person shall hereafter become a member of the Volunteer Division except in accordance with the provisions of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey. Such person shall be at least 18 years of age and not over the age of 45 years; shall be a citizen of the United States; shall be sound in body, of good health and able to read, write and speak the English language well and intelligently; and shall be of good moral character. He shall be physically fit to perform the duties of a fireman, which fact shall be evidenced by a certificate issued by a practicing physician of the state after physical examination by such practicing physician shall have established such physical fitness. Emerson Fire Department
The Emerson Fire Department is actively seeking residents who are interested in serving their community by volunteering with our department. | Requirements: Firefighter applicants must be at least 18 years of age and are required to complete Firefighter I training at the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute located in Mahwah, New Jersey. This six-month long training course was designed around the NFPA Standard 1001 and the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety Standard. Class is held twice per week, allowing students to acquire sufficient skills and knowledge that will enable him/her to function as an effective fire ground participant under the direct supervision of departmental officers. The course includes lectures, videos and slide/tape presentations in addition to practical exercises. Students must maintain a minimum score of 70% on both the written midterm and final exams as well as successful completion of a practical evaluation. There truly is no such thing as a routine call, and the abilities to think on the fly and to react and adapt to a constantly changing environment are critical. Firefighting is an ultra-hazardous job, and the dangers are always present, regardless of what type of call we are on. Responds to fire incidents and conducts tasks including interior attack, ventilation, salvage, overhaul, or fire-ground support operations as directed. Participates in emergency rescue operations and supports specialized teams including various types of rescue incidents such as fast water, dive, high angle, trench, auto extrication, and building collapse. Drives emergency vehicles operated by the department except for pumper and aerial apparatus. Assists in performing routine maintenance of all fire apparatus and tools of the department including non-powered tools such as axes pike poles, ladders, and other miscellaneous equipment. Participates in emergency management functions such as spotting for severe weather and storms and notifying the appropriate chain of command. Participates in public education programs by assisting in conducting fire department tours, demonstrations, and presentations. Participates in pre-fire analysis, in reviewing target hazards within the company district, and establishing actions to be taken at the time of an incident.
