Applicants in this category will be expected to perform all basic functions of a Firefighter according to NFPA 1001. Firefighters will perform their duties in emergency and non-emergency settings. Firefighters will work within the department in a team environment to complete their assigned duties. Firefighters may be expected to work in a variety of work environments including: severe weather incidents, extreme hot and cold weather, hazardous atmospheres, dark and confined spaces, and other situations that may arise. Firefighters will work under the direction of a company supervisor at all times. Firefighters will participate in company and department training, respond to incidents, extinguish fires, provide manpower assistance when requested, participate in fire prevention activities, maintain department equipment, and may perform additional duties as instructed. | Requirements: Firefighters not already trained to Tennessee Commission on Firefighting: Firefighter 1 or higher, will be required to participate and complete an approved department training program. This training will consist of several hundred hours of classroom and practical exercises. Practical and written tests will be administered during the course of the training and maintaining a passing score is mandatory. Applicant must be 18 years of age or older. The member will function as a member of a team and will perform duties and services based on their individual level of training and licensure as well as department and county protocols.
