Thank you for your interest in joining the Cresskill Fire Department as firefighter in the Volunteer Division. The Cresskill Fire Department is a combination fire department, utilizing both paid and volunteer firefighters. Because of the combination department, the Borough of Cresskill benefits by the immediate response of paid personnel, complemented by volunteer firefighters. The department responds out of Fire Headquarters located at 51 Madison Ave. The department utilizes 3 engines, an aerial truck, a rescue truck, and 3 licensed ambulances. | Requirements: Appointment of members. No person shall hereafter become a member of the Volunteer Division except in accordance with the provisions of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey. Such person shall be at least 18 years of age and not over the age of 45 years; shall be a citizen of the United States; shall be sound in body, of good health and able to read, write and speak the English language well and intelligently; and shall be of good moral character. He shall be physically fit to perform the duties of a fireman, which fact shall be evidenced by a certificate issued by a practicing physician of the state after physical examination by such practicing physician shall have established such physical fitness. As a Community Volunteer, you will assist seniors with various tasks such as friendly visits, errands, and technology assistance. Volunteers are expected to engage with seniors and help them maintain their independence and social connections.

As a Youth Program Volunteer, you will assist in after-school and summer programs designed to provide educational support and enrichment activities for children and teens. Volunteers will engage with youth in various recreational and academic activities, helping to foster a positive and supportive environment.

College Zone Tutors work with students one-on-one or in small groups to provide individualized instruction in a variety of high school level subjects. Tutors commit to at least one day per week for two hours per day.

Provide free academic support to public school students, helping them with literacy, basic math, and other academic skills. Volunteers are trained to use the most up-to-date approaches to literacy/academic support and mentoring.

Assist elementary school students with homework and literacy skills after school. Volunteers include senior adults, college, and high school-aged mentors who engage students in academic development activities.

Career Coaches mentor YPIE college juniors and seniors through the process of creating a personalized internship and job application plan, searching for opportunities, and preparing strong applications.

Volunteers assist clients during guided technology classes, helping with computer setup and exercises. Topics include safe password practices and using applications like Gmail and Google Docs. Available in Mount Kisco, Ossining, and Yonkers.

YPIE Graduation Coaches develop meaningful relationships with Scholars, serve as conduits to broaden their horizons, provide connections to resources to help them reach their potential, and support them through high school graduation. Graduation Coaches meet with their Scholars two times per month and are provided a curriculum to guide those meetings.

Science Internship Coaches work with 10th Grade Science Research Scholars to apply for summer internships, ensuring all components of the applications are completed before deadlines.

Volunteers assist the instructor with guided activities for children ages 0-4, while their parents attend parenting and child development classes. This program is available during the daytime in Mount Kisco, Ossining, and Yonkers.

Starting in the summer between junior and senior year and continuing through December, YPIE Essay Coaches provide support to our Scholars and Fellows as they write their college essays, a critical part of the college application process.

Science Research Mentors assist students in conducting research, suggesting reading materials, providing feedback, and editing research papers. Mentors commit to a 2-year term.
