Volunteers are needed to facilitate bi-weekly meetings for the Phoenix Rising Program, which provides grief support for children and families. Specialized in-person training is required.

Bereavement support volunteers assist with activities and events for families following the loss of their loved ones, including memorial events and support group meetings. Specialized training is provided.

Office Volunteers assist with clerical tasks such as copying, filing, and preparing mailings at the main reception desk. Scheduling is flexible during normal business hours based on availability.

Home hospice volunteers visit our hospice and/or palliative care patients wherever they call home, providing companionship through conversation, reading, or watching movies. Visits are typically limited to 2 hours or less, and volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

Medical Guardian volunteers assist with delivering and setting up Medical Guardian Help Buttons. This role is flexible and requires minimal time commitment, with training provided.

Pet Therapy Volunteers bring licensed therapy dogs to visit hospice and palliative care patients in their homes or at facilities. This role requires a licensed pet therapy dog and their human companion.

Volunteers in the We Honor Veterans program assist Veterans and their families through companionship visits and special recognition events. Veteran volunteers are highly needed, but being a Veteran is not required to serve our Veteran patients.

Join our growing community of dedicated volunteers that serve the Crown Point population. Volunteers help create impactful play experiences for children and families through donated time and talents. All volunteer candidates are subject to background checks, and we welcome groups.

Assist with the Northwest Indiana Beekeepers Association's booth at the Lake County State Fair. Volunteers will help engage with the public, provide information about beekeeping, and support the setup and maintenance of the booth.

Deliver groceries to seniors who need your help. Volunteers will pick up groceries at the Food Bank and deliver them to seniors, helping to brighten their day.

Assist with packing food boxes and sorting grocery items for food assistance programs. Volunteers may also help with general warehouse cleaning and organizing needs during these shifts.

Assist with the setup and distribution of food during our weekly Mobile Market distributions. Mobile Markets take place outdoors, Monday through Saturday, in Lake & Porter Counties.

After obtaining the rank of Firefighter, members will continue their education in both EMS and advanced fire disciplines over time. <br> <b><u>EMS Training</b></u> After successful completion of Fire Academy, candidates not already in possession of an EMS certification will have one year to enroll in a local, state-accredited EMS program to earn their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. Both accelerated (weekday) and evening classes are available through various EMS providers in the NWI Region. All tuition will be covered by the SJFD's nonprofit foundation, so long as the candidate is an active participant in the department. For convenience of location and times, most candidates chose to enroll in the <a href="https://www.franciscanhealth.org/healthcare-professionals/education/emt-training-course-crown-point" target="_blank">EMS Academy offered through Franciscan Health Crown Point</a>. <br> <b><u>Free College Tuition</b></u> The educational opportunities don't stop with the Fire Academy, however.
