United Volunteer Fire & Rescue is an all-volunteer department serving the communities of East McKeesport and Wall. We are always on the lookout for anyone 14 years of age and up to help the department in any way that they can. Being a volunteer does not mean that you are limited to entering a burning building - far from it! In fact, not every member is interested in 'going inside'. Even if all you want to do is drive the equipment to the scene, we can use the help. There are opportunities for vehicle rescue and EMS calls, for sure, but we also need help behind the scenes with administration, fund raising, and community outreach. All training - if needed - is paid for. Being an active member also gives you a chance to earn a free - yes, free - Associates Degree from CCAC, in any of their programs (not just Fire Science) through the FireVEST program. Volunteers assist in distributing food directly to community members, helping load cars full of nutritious foods for families and individuals at outdoor events. This hands-on experience allows volunteers to interact with the community.

Volunteers inspect, sort, and repackage thousands of pounds of food each week at the Volunteer Engagement Center. This opportunity is essential for distributing food to individuals and families facing food insecurity in the community.

Help prepare, maintain, and harvest organic produce at the Food Bank Orchard. Volunteers can also assist in rescuing fresh food from farms and collecting donations at farmers markets.

This event engages families in volunteer work, educating younger volunteers about food insecurity in their community. It’s an opportunity for families to work together and make a difference.

Volunteers are essential to PitCare's operations, supporting programs like the food pantry, community center, and youth sports. Responsibilities may include organizing events, assisting with food distribution, and mentoring youth.
