Rancho del Oso is looking for new docents to welcome visitors and introduce them to the natural and cultural history of the area. Volunteers will receive training to lead guided walks, participate in Wilderness Patrol, and assist at the Nature and History Center and Welcome Center.

Work on garden projects around the Visitor Center, including weeding, planting, and suggesting improvements. This task requires 2-4 hours per month, any day of the week.

Capture interesting photos of places, plants, and animals around the park for social media. This role requires 1-4 hours per month, any day of the week.

Join the bi-monthly Saturday work parties to eradicate non-native French Broom and maintain the park. Volunteers also remove barbed wire from the park's past as a cattle ranch.

Staff the Visitor Center to greet visitors, offer tours, and assist with educational exhibits and events. Volunteers set their own hours, with a minimum of 4 hours a month.

Lead docent-led programs to educate visitors about the ecological value and cultural history of Quail Hollow Ranch. Programs include herp walks, star gazing, house tours, and history hikes.

Assist the Quail Hollow Trail Crew in developing and maintaining hiking trails and removing invasive thistle plants. Volunteers meet weekly on Tuesdays at 9AM.

Monitor nest boxes to provide nesting habitat for local cavity-nesting birds and gather data on their breeding biology. Volunteers follow protocols from Columbia University.

Lead educational hikes on various topics such as astronomy, mushroom, flora, fauna, geology, history, and photography. Commitment varies from 2 hours a year to 2 hours a month.

Work involves training for and participating in duties of protecting life and property through the performance of firefighting and emergency service activities. Volunteer Firefighters are required to learn and participate in the operation of apparatus and the performance of hazardous tasks under emergency conditions which may require strenuous exertion under such handicaps as smoke, fire, heat and cramped surroundings. Although firefighting and emergency services work constitutes the primary and most difficult and responsible area of work, the volunteer is also required to drill attending at least 70% of the drills. These drills consist of practice sessions dealing with various aspects of firefighting, rescue, hazardous materials awareness, and emergency medical work. Time spent at the station may consist of studying, custodial care and a wide variety of maintenance of departmental facilities, apparatus and equipment. Work is usually performed in accordance with explicit instructions and well defined procedures; however, performance of the work requires initiative and the exercise of independent judgment. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Lieutenant or Captain. | Requirements: High School diploma or GED is required.
