The Adams County Office for Aging is governed by a Board of Directors appointed to a three-year term. Board members meet monthly and serve on at least one committee, contributing to the governance and strategic direction of the organization.

Volunteers complete local, state, and federal income tax forms for people age 60 and over at no charge. Training is required, and the volunteer commitment is during tax season from February to mid-April.

Trained volunteers provide information and assistance with questions about insurance programs including Medicare, Medicaid, and other prescription programs. Volunteers must complete online modules, state-sponsored training, and a final test to be certified as PA MEDI counselors, with a time commitment of 3 hours 1-2 days/month.

This volunteer service can include serving meals, playing games, leading crafts, art, music, or presenting a travel or informational program. Volunteers are also needed to fill in for the Site Manager of the center when that person needs a day off.

Volunteers are trained to serve as impartial representatives or advocates who assist in investigations involving issues of concern made by or for seniors in long-term care facilities or consumers of in-home services. They will investigate complaints regarding care or services that may adversely affect the health, safety, welfare, or rights of older persons.

Volunteers are needed to transport hot, nutritious meals to functionally disabled, home-bound, or convalescent people age 60+. A commitment of one day a week and access to transportation is required. The delivery process takes about one hour and serves as a daily check-in for participants who may live alone.

Volunteers transport bulk deliveries of 10 or 20 frozen meals to home-bound clients who live outside the service delivery areas for daily home-delivered meals. A typical time commitment is one or two delivery trips each month, with meals picked up at ACOFA in Gettysburg and taken to consumers in rural Adams County areas.

Volunteers perform minor home repair work and outdoor yard work through Chore Service. Tasks may include minor carpentry, installation of grab bars, and other small repairs for the safe upkeep of the home.

United Hook & Ladder Company # 33 was formed in 2009 by the merger of the New Oxford Community Fire Company and the Abbottstown Fire Company. This merger was to provide more efficient operations and services provided to the residents and visitors to our response area. As of January 1, 2016 Bonneauville Volunteer Fire Company becomes part of United Hook & Ladder. We provide emergency services from our (3) Fire Stations. The main station (Station 1) and where our functions are held is at 21 North Bolton Street in New Oxford Borough. The Abbottstown Station (Station 2) is located at 38 East King Street in Abbottstown Borough. The Bonneauville Station (Station 3) is located at 10 Elm Avenue in Bonneauville Borough. We are an all volunteer department seeking new volunteer members. This includes members to be firefighters but also looking for volunteers to assist with public education, administrative needs and assist with our fund raising activities. We do not have excessive fund raising activities which sometimes deter people from volunteering. We only have 7 days a year in which we do fund raising, with 4 of those being our annual firemen's fair. The Bendersville Community Fire Company has served the community for over 100 years. Over the years we have provided several services to our community. Fire suppression, Motor Vehicle efforts, EMS, land rescue, and much more. These efforts come with a price tag. Over the years we have made fundraising not only about supporting our services but also away for the community to come together and enjoy great events with great food to support a great cause. This obviously creates more time for our volunteers to provide banquet quality foods to the public instead of providing the services that we hold dear to our hearts. We are in search of an individual able to coordinate the hall rentals, food ordering, and other duties. | Requirements: This individual must be aware of the serving standards, and be familiar with cooking. South Mountain Volunteer Fire Department is looking for committed and dedicated people who want to make a difference in the community. South Mountain Volunteer Fire Department responds to fire, medical, and hazardous materials incidents. The fire department also provides Non Emergency Transportation. It serves over 1800 residents in the following areas Guilford and Quincy Townships in Franklin County, and Hamiltonban Township in Adams County in their primary response area. The department also responds to mutual aid requests to neighboring communities. The fire department delivers fire prevention and safety educational programs to the community. South Mountain Volunteer Fire Department responds to over 300 fire and emergency services calls a year.
