Garden Guides play an essential role in Powell Gardens’ education department, helping to inspire young minds through engaging school and summer programming. Field trips are held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings when the gardens are open, and Guides should be comfortable walking up to 1½ miles during each field trip.

Groups looking for meaningful and impactful volunteer experiences can participate in a variety of projects, including weeding, planting, nature trail upkeep, maintenance, and administrative tasks. Each group will enjoy a customized outing tailored to their interests, with the option to schedule recurring opportunities upon request.

Garden volunteers work closely with the horticulture department, contributing to vital gardening tasks such as weeding, planting, soil preparation, and overall garden maintenance. Volunteers are encouraged to commit to a weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly schedule, fostering a deeper connection with the space and the team.

Administration volunteers support various departments at Powell Gardens, contributing to tasks such as guest services, wedding events, membership, photography, community donations, data entry, and fundraising events. Volunteers typically work alongside a small group of staff or other volunteers, with some tasks possibly completed from home.

JCFPD is a 24-hour per day service with a full-time Chief, Assistant Chief, 3 full-time firefighters, and more than 120 volunteer members from diverse backgrounds. All equipment and training is provided. Fire suppression remains the foremost function. The District responds to various types of fire related incidents and also provides rescue services for motor vehicle accidents and as needed for other rescue related incidents.
