Policy Overview   The purpose of this policy is to identify who is eligible for membership in the Lake Hiawatha Fire Department and to describe the application and investigation process. In order to maintain high level of competency and proud traditions, the department must ensure that its new members meet or exceed our standards. Furthermore, it must be recognized that its not everyone, in fact most people, cannot endure the physical and mental challenges of firefighting. Dog Walkers help exercise our dogs throughout the day, providing them with the physical activity they need. Volunteers must attend a Dog Walking Orientation before working with the dogs.

As a Cat Companion, you will socialize with the cats in our care, helping them feel comfortable with human interactions. This role is essential for their health, wellness, and adoptability.

Shelter Helpers assist with daily operations by helping with laundry, dishes, and other current needs. This role is vital for maintaining the shelter's cleanliness and efficiency.

Kennel Attendants assist with morning cleanings within the cattery or dog runs. Shifts are available every day from 8:00 to 10:30 AM, ensuring a clean and safe environment for the animals.

Public Relations Helpers promote Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter by taking pictures and creating highlight videos or content for the shelter. Volunteers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
