These duties may include, but not limited to: Responding to a wide variety of emergencies. Protecting the life and property of others. Perform all aspects of fire suppression and overhaul. Clean, operate, and maintain a variety of equipment. Perform rescue operations in a variety of conditions. Work with the public on fire prevention. Work with other agencies within the city and outside of your jurisdiction. Drive a city vehicle in both emergency and non-emergency circumstances. Complete reports. Attend training classes. Drive or attend on ambulance calls. Fulfill all of the requirements of probations as set forth in Policy 400.0 – Probationary Period Desired Qualities: Given the varied duties and responsibilities of a firefighter, both physical and mental, the desired qualifications are also varied. The following is a list of some of the desired qualities: High school diploma with college preferred. An interest in and an aptitude for firefighting and emergency medicine. The ability to physically perform demanding tasks under stressful circumstances. The ability to read and understand technical materials. The ability to handle and operate technical equipment. The ability to work well with others including peers and authority and maintain a courteous relationship with the general public.
