Every hour you give helps provide food for families across Western North Carolina. Individual volunteers can help with a variety of tasks, turning your time into meals for neighbors in need.

We accept volunteers who need to complete community service hours. You’ll be asked a few questions during the screening process so we can review your request quickly and fairly.

Faye’s Place provides socialization for isolated seniors and respite for caregivers. Volunteers assist with serving beverages and lunch, leading activities, and providing companionship to seniors, many of whom have varying degrees of dementia.

Volunteers deliver flowers and meals to isolated seniors during Rosh Hashanah, Hanukkah, and Passover. Volunteers are assigned to deliver to 2-3 homes or facilities, providing meals and an opportunity for seniors to honor the holiday.

Assist in cleaning enclosures, feeding birds of prey, and providing enrichment activities. Volunteers will also help with medical procedures, landscaping, and general maintenance tasks.

Volunteers are needed to assist with various projects at the Science and Nature Center, including gardening, cleaning animal habitats, carpentry, yard work, and supporting public events and festivals. Volunteers should be ready to engage in hands-on tasks and contribute to the center's educational mission.

Join us for a trail work day at Bent Creek on March 21, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Volunteers will assist with trail maintenance and improvements to enhance the biking experience in the area.

Help with trail work at Bracken Preserve on February 21, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Volunteers will work on trail maintenance and improvements under the guidance of experienced crew leaders.

Lead nature walks at The Park at Flat Rock, engaging with people of all ages and backgrounds. Walks are held the second Saturday of the month, March – November, lasting 60-90 minutes. Leaders must submit the theme and description to the park ranger 45 days in advance.

Wildlife Hotline volunteers provide assistance and information to the public regarding injured or orphaned wildlife. This role involves answering calls and offering guidance on how to handle wildlife situations.

Transport volunteers help in the safe relocation of wildlife to and from the refuge. This role requires a valid driver's license and a commitment to the safety and welfare of the animals being transported.

Volunteers assist with daily operations, helping with tasks that support the care and rehabilitation of wildlife. This role is essential for maintaining the sanctuary and ensuring the well-being of the animals.
