The Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department consists of three positions, Firefighter, Fire Ground Support, and Fire Police. Each level carries with it certain responsibilities and yearly training requirements. Depending on your choice of option, your training requirements will be laid out for you by a Line Officer. The firefighter and fire ground support members make up the fire suppression division of the department. They respond to numerous types of calls such as, structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, automatic alarms, water rescues, and general service calls. The Fire Police division is a service organization for the town and serve in a number of capacities. They assist with traffic control at fire and accident scenes, natural disasters, and public events. They are on call to assist both the Fire and Police Departments as needed.
