Volunteers provide information about the Friends and the Refuge at local festivals, markets, and other events, helping to raise awareness and engage the community.

Trail Stewards help maintain over 20 miles of trails throughout the Refuge, performing light maintenance such as trimming vegetation, removing invasive plants, and picking up litter. Volunteers also report safety hazards and engage with visitors.

Volunteers assist with planning, greeting, ticket taking, moderating, and setting up and cleaning up at Friends events. These roles support the smooth running of events and community engagement.

Volunteers help remove invasive plant species like holly, gorse, and Scotch broom. This involves medium to light physical labor for about three hours per session.

From February through May, volunteers visit 4th grade classrooms in Pacific County to teach about the environment and wildlife refuges. Volunteers also lead field trips to the Refuge to reinforce learning.

Assist in organizing and executing the annual Project Community Connect event, which provides free goods and services to neighbors in need. Volunteers help with setup, coordination, and support during the event.

Participate in monthly meetings open to local residents to discuss and plan poverty alleviation strategies on the Peninsula. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month at 2:00 PM.

As a Public Engagement Volunteer, you will welcome guests, answer questions about exhibits, assist at events, and lead hands-on kite activities. This role is perfect for those who enjoy meeting new people and sharing their enthusiasm for kites with visitors of all ages.
