Policy Overview   The purpose of this policy is to identify who is eligible for membership in the Lake Hiawatha Fire Department and to describe the application and investigation process. In order to maintain high level of competency and proud traditions, the department must ensure that its new members meet or exceed our standards. Furthermore, it must be recognized that its not everyone, in fact most people, cannot endure the physical and mental challenges of firefighting. Outreach Assistants help with outreach and fundraising events by setting up and taking down event sites and distributing flyers. This role is crucial for raising awareness about the shelter's mission.

Kennel Attendants assist with morning cleanings within the cattery or dog runs. Shifts are available every day from 8:00 to 10:30 AM, ensuring a clean and safe environment for the animals.

Dog Walkers help exercise our dogs throughout the day, providing them with the physical activity they need. Volunteers must attend a Dog Walking Orientation before working with the dogs.

Public Relations Helpers promote Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter by taking pictures and creating highlight videos or content for the shelter. Volunteers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
