Seniors spend their last month of school working in the park (planting, weeding, mulching) and on rain days carrying out other projects from May to June.

Join us in planting hundreds of tulip and daffodil bulbs in early November. This is a great opportunity to beautify the park and learn about gardening.

Help plant a tree and learn about the environmental importance of trees and the history of this Olmsted-designed park. This event takes place on the last Friday of April.

Scouts and other groups are welcome to organize a cleanup that includes weeding, mulching, collecting litter, and removing fallen branches and leaves that clog Toneys Brook during spring or fall.

Spend two hours selling raffle tickets at our booth during the art fair in Anderson Park, which takes place in mid-September. Money raised usually buys about a dozen trees.

Individuals or groups may adopt a shrubbery bed to weed, mulch, and water during spring or fall. This is a longer-term commitment that helps maintain the beauty of the park.

Eagle Scout candidates can work on projects to recreate planting beds from the historic Olmsted planting plan. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the park's historical preservation.

Join us in the garden for weeding, deadheading, and maintaining the beauty of the garden beds. Volunteers are welcome during the summer months, specifically from June 12th to July 31st, on Thursday mornings.

As a Welcome Table Volunteer, you will greet guests, collect donations, distribute brochures, and inform visitors about upcoming events. This role is essential in enhancing the visitor experience during the bloom season.

Help weed, mulch, and maintain Brookdale Park’s Pollinator Garden. Volunteers meet at 9 am every Tuesday, weather permitting. This project supports native plants and wildlife.

Help the BPC find and manage potential grant applications. Previous experience is a plus, but not necessary.

Join the team to weed and water the park, making a significant impact on its appearance and health. No experience is necessary and training is provided. Meetings are scheduled bi-weekly from 9:30-11.

Assist in maintaining the health and appearance of Brookdale Park’s landscape through rejuvenation pruning. No experience is necessary and training is provided.

Assist in maintaining the historic Essex County Rose Garden at Brookdale Park. No experience is necessary and training is provided. Volunteers meet at the Rose Garden at 8:30am on Wednesdays, with occasional Saturday sessions.

Coordinate volunteer outreach and manage on-site activities during events. Ideal for a self-starter who is well-organized and a good communicator.

Assist in planning periodic Freeshop events to distribute donated items for free to community members. Tasks include organizing the event and coordinating storytelling about cooking, food, and family kitchen traditions.

Regularly check and restock free food pantry kiosks from donated inventory. These kiosks are open to all, 24x7, and located in multiple neighborhood locations.

Assist with writing and editing for the MtcMA newsletter and blog. Tasks include graphic design, social media posting, and email list management.

Participate in weekly hands-on gardening at Montclair sites, helping to grow vegetables and distribute food. This is a learning opportunity about gardening and nutrition, fostering self-sufficiency and community relationships.

Connect people for flood cleanup equipment borrow/lend. Volunteers will assist with social media posting, contacts liaison, arrangements, and logistics.
