Board members play a crucial role in the administration of Mentor Iowa, helping guide the organization and support the children served. Board meetings are held every other month, and members serve three-year terms.

As a mentor, you will provide one-on-one support and friendship to at-risk children, helping them navigate challenges and build confidence. Mentors must commit to a one-year relationship and complete a thorough screening and training process, including background checks and orientation.

Group volunteers assist by taking children from the waiting list to group activities, providing mentorship for a day. This role requires completion of the regular mentor training and is ideal for those who cannot commit to one-on-one mentoring.

Event volunteers help with various special events throughout the year, such as holiday parties and fundraising activities. This role is perfect for those looking to support Mentor Iowa without a long-term commitment.

Work with the Grant Committee chairperson to write grant proposals, research grant opportunities, and edit proposals. This role supports the financial sustainability of Clive Community Services.

Provide medical care at the Free Clinic. Volunteer Physicians, PAs, and ARNPs are needed to support the health of our community members.

Assist during food pantry and clothes closet shifts by acting as a receptionist, client shopping assistant, clothes closet monitor, or client intake worker. Volunteers are also needed for sorting and stocking items outside of service hours.

Join the Fundraising Committee to help with idea generation, event planning, and execution for fundraising and awareness events. Meetings occur 1-2 times per month on weekday evenings.

Assist in submitting grants by scouting opportunities, writing, proofing, and submitting applications. Training is provided for those looking to gain experience in writing.

Support the organization by configuring wifi, supporting email servers, and maintaining QuickBooks. This role requires a few hours per month to ensure smooth operations.

Support patrons who utilize the Pet Pantry and Paws for Life programs by answering phones, filling pet food orders, and assisting clients. This opportunity is available one Saturday per month, with a time commitment of 2-5 hours.

Assist with administrative tasks such as calling clients, filing, and data entry to ensure smooth operations. Office help is needed on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with flexible scheduling options.

Help organize and scan applications into the server to efficiently manage client information. This role offers flexible timing and allows you to listen to audio content while working.

Lead an awareness/food drive at your workplace with provided materials. This role involves organizing and promoting the drive, with a recommended duration of at least two weeks.

Help transport donated food to the Pet Project office. Volunteers need a large vehicle and the ability to lift 30+ pounds. Pick-ups occur in the Des Moines area as needed.

Volunteers will take dogs in the adoption building for bathroom breaks and playtime, clean out dog runs, and ensure bowls are filled with clean water. Advanced training allows for walking dogs outside the courtyard and working on socialization and obedience.

Volunteers will help maintain the cleanliness and functionality of the facilities by doing laundry, washing items, and assisting with smaller-scale maintenance projects.

Help plan, fund, and organize fundraisers, educate the public about Furry Friends’ mission, and assist in taking adoptable animals to off-site events.
