The Winsted Fire Department is looking for men and woman to become Firefighters, Fire Police/ Support position and Explorers. The WFD responds to 600 to 800 calls a year in the Town of Winchester and the surrounding towns. The WFD will send new members to a regional fire school for training at no cost to the individual. The Winsted Fire Department offers pay per call and a tax abatement to active members. The Pleasant Valley Fire Department serves the community of Barkhamsted Connecticut. We provide volunteer fire and rescue services. We are a small department responding to about 200 calls per year. We have immediate and critical need for new staff. We have lost several members in the last few years and are running short. Participate in monitoring coral bleaching events by collecting data on coral health and environmental conditions. Volunteers will work with scientists to assess the impact of bleaching on coral reefs.

Assist in the restoration of coral reefs by participating in activities such as planting coral fragments and monitoring coral health. Volunteers will work alongside marine biologists and other conservationists to help restore vital marine ecosystems.

Engage in the conservation of sea turtles by monitoring nesting sites, assisting in data collection, and educating the public about sea turtle conservation efforts.

Assist in the removal of invasive Eurasian milfoil plants from local water bodies. Volunteers will help in identifying and removing these plants to protect native aquatic ecosystems.

This program is designed for youth aged 12-18 who want to help care for dogs and facilities. Responsibilities include cleaning kennels, grooming dogs, and exercising them during weekend shifts.

Research and write grants to secure funding for the facility and its programs, helping ensure the long-term sustainability of the initiative.

Assist in developing fundraising strategies and initiatives, including grant writing, donor outreach, and community fundraising efforts.

Volunteers in the Nursery Team open their homes to care for puppies that are ready to begin their training as service dogs. This involves nurturing and socializing the puppies to prepare them for their future roles.
